Tips and Guidelines
- Download the Symantec AntiVirus version compatible with your current Operating System.
- Upgrade to the latest version of Symantec AntiVirus software:
- Completely uninstall all antivirus products on your computer.
- Restart your computer.
- Double click to run the downloaded installer for the new version.
- Keeping your antivirus software current with virus definitions is critical to keeping your computer protected against the latest threats. The default settings provided by UConn are set to check for daily updates.
- To check settings on a Windows computer, go to 'File' then 'Schedule Updates...'.
- Scheduling regular scans is a good idea, such as scanning all local disks every month. To schedule a scan on a Windows machine, select 'Edit ' then 'New Scheduled Scan'. For version 10 users, we recommend following this wizard and selecting a Full Scan with a frequency of at least monthly. Since Symantec may discover adware and spyware and not remove it without your consent, you should periodically review your scan results by going to 'Histories' and then 'Scan History'.
- Manually Scanning your computer every once in a while is a good habit to get into, especially if you suspect being infected by a virus.
- If you suspect something is wrong with your antivirus software, or you are infected with a virus, contact the Help Center at 486-HELP (4357).
